for me (and a lot of others, I'll bet) to resist getting sucked into them.

Sometimes it devolves to a point where one is simply trying to set the record straight. When people attack someone personally, which seems to be what happened to a large degree to you earlier, it's only natural to want to respond to that. And it's perfectly acceptable, and necessary to some degree, to do so, imo.

No one should feel compelled to let stand unanswered smears against them.

Even while doing this, you still came back with facts and tried to address substantively whateverthefuck idiocy people were coming up with.

It happens to the best of us, joanneleon. :)

that parts of it were pretty funny though, Deadhead, especially when he was trying to call you an asshole in a clever way and linked to the comment pointing at me instead, just when he'd been scolding me.  Oy.  There were some other amusing parts to it too.

There's no "you "have to admit" about it...I FREELY admit. :D

There's some back story to that which made it even more satisfying.

The thing is, these people actually think that using my past comments against me is as an effective a tactic as it is with others they're used to dealing with around here.

I give exactly zero fucks what anyone digs up...I stand by my comments.

Heck, when he finally got the link to my prior comment right in a subsequent comment, I did him one better and posted the full text of my comment for him. ;)

I find value in those types of exchanges, because exposing people and their games is important, since we can't see the person in front of us in real life, it's harder to discern a person's motives and positions on things.

I want to know who I'm dealing with as best as possible given the medium in which we're operating.
