  •  The CRP program is vital (7+ / 0-)

    to areas like where I live that have lost (and continue to lose) topsoil to wind erosion.
    Unfortunately, that program was cut by millions of dollars in 2011 as well, and I've seen a lot of CRP grass plowed under for wheat and corn. It's a matter of practicality for farmers, unfortunately.
    And your ideas about which farms can get subsidies is not well thought through. Farmers who have gas or oil wells on their properties don't own the rights to those wells, and therefore can't dictate what procedures are used or not used, as many people back east who sold the mineral rights to their lands are now finding out.
