"urban interests" strip the pork out of the farm bill?

We subsidize these wealthy farmers so they in turn will provide the nutrition for our urban citizens who can't live "off the land." Then these ungrateful wealthy "farmers" like Fincher (R-TN) turn around and bite the taxpayer hand that feeds them. $200 BILLION in subsidies most of which goes to a handful of the wealthiest.

“By splitting farm policy from food stamps, the House effectively ended the decades-old political marriage between urban interests concerned about nutrition and rural areas that depend on farm subsidies,” wrote Ron Nixon and Jonathan Weisman of the New York Times.

A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit.
