    children being allowed to misbehave in public. My favorite pet peeve in this area is bad behavior in a restaurant, whether it be a pizza parlor or a fine dining restaurant.

    I taught my son from the moment he could understand that it was a privilege to go out to eat, one that we could not afford often, and that he was to be on his best behavior, as would I. I simply explained to him that when out in public, our behavior would have an impact on those around us just as their behavior would have an impact on us, and the experience would be most enjoyable if good behavior was practiced by all.

    And, to this day, I still make a point of complimenting anyone I see dining with well behaved children in a restaurant.
