    There was not enough social stratification to generate a leisured ruling class, or an elite priestly caste, or a sovereign, or a military aristocracy. Women may have been fairly equal to men in status and perceived economic utility, but they did not rule.
    Honoring matrilineal descent and inheritance does not mean matriarchy. The Hebrews observed matrilineality, but that didn't prevent them from being pretty sternly patriarchal.
