  •  Roe said a little more than that. (2+ / 0-)

It also differentiated between the 3 trimesters of pregnancy in terms of who's interests pre-dominated.  Roe all but eliminates any question of restricting abortion within the first 12 weeks.  A law that attempts to ban them after six weeks simply isn't going to fly.

    •  Any law that bans before viability... (1+ / 0-)

...won't fly if the Supreme Court doesn't reverse Roe. Later Court rulings reaffirmed (with some adjustment of the rigid trimester formulation of Roe) that the only bars a state could impose in the second semester related to the woman's health and to protect the fetus after viability.

The current makeup of the Supreme Court is such that reversal of Roe is unlikely as long as Kennedy doesn't change his mind on his previous stances or get replaced who agrees with the four forced-birthers there already.

That does not mean these laws, or attempted laws, have no impact. They force a use of limited resources by reproductive rights groups that are fighting a whole range of abortion restrictions, record numbers the past two and a half years.

Don't tell me what you believe, show me what you do and I will tell you what you believe.

      •  As you know, a woman's health covers a (0+ / 0-)

        lot of ground.

The Texas law is arguably aimed at protecting womens' health.  It isn't, of course, but that will be the argument and the Gosnell and Brigham cases will be held up as examples.

        •  Why aren't these hyped up Christians who (0+ / 0-)

are so concerned about life and health eliminate Medicare and Medicaid coverage of Viagara?  If one listens to the contraindications and side effects of these ED pills, one has to know that it's unsafe for men to take them.  Are their lives not also important?  Please go after these pharmaceutical companies, GOP, and make them stop killing our men or allowing men to kill potential babies by premature ejacks.  Get those activists lined up in front of every CVS and Walgreens in the nation.  The R2Lers indifference to this side of the reproduction equation is galling.
