  •  The people should not be moved, period! (6+ / 0-)

It sounds cruel, but they may have neck and spinal injuries.  Moving them can kill or paralyze them.

The exception might be if the car is becoming engulfed in flames -- an event that rarely happens outside the movies.

    •  If, and it's a big if... (5+ / 0-)

the victims are not moving on their own, because they are unconscious, injured or otherwise incapacitated.

If the victims are moving on their own, and trying to get out under their own power, it is ridiculous to assert that bystanders shouldn't try to help them.

You guys are talking about the people trapped in the vehicle as if they are inert sacks of potatoes. Sometimes that is the case, but it doesn't sound like this was one of those times.

put, they really don't like to.

My husband and I helped a cyclist in the road- the victim of hit and run. My husband stopped the truck in front of him and put the flashers on to keep him safe from traffic. We told him that he shouldn't move and that he was safe from traffic, but he insisted on standing up (shaky) and getting off the side of the road. When the EMTs arrived THEY had a very hard time getting him to accept medical care. He wanted to continue biking into work. They told him they would not allow it and the cop agreed he was not deemed fit.
