  •  How about... (11+ / 0-)

teenage identical twin detectives who, when they're not fighting over the same girl (a very confused girl who is interested in somebody else), try to solve a mystery that will prevent the End of Days.  To make it more interesting, make the kids Buddhists, so they don't know what the hell End of Days means or why they should even prevent it.  Oh, and vampires.

Run with it, it's yours.  No acknowledgments on the title page necessary.

I also think the talking dog genre is grossly underrepresented and needs to make a comeback.  Perhaps a talking dog that tries to prevent the Mayan Apocalypse (you would have to backdate this to 2011), being pursued by a pack of talking wolves.  Who are really teenage werewolves, stuck in their wolf forms because of a curse laid upon them by a Taoist monk whose lawn they had desecrated.

"You dare to toss your cigarette butts on my lawn I worked so hard on?  I curse you all to spend the rest of your days as the unmannerly wolves that you really are!  Begone now, or I'll also dial 911!"
