such as an AR-15 is used at short range, they are especially lethal. Instead of just striking the target with a bullet, and inflicting a wound from which they might bleed to death, they can turn internal organs into hamburger, and liberate small limbs and heads from children.

    •  The AR isn't powerful, and the damage wasn't due (0+ / 0-)

to the rifle primarily, but I really don't want to discuss what makes a wound more lethal. In the one in a billion chance that some psycho is reading this I wouldn't want to contribute to their knowledge. I will say that seeking to regulate the object is likely an ineffective way to reduce the incidence of mass shootings.

      •  Long guns are harder to conceal (0+ / 0-)

and until we have a rash of sniper killings, I think our priority focus should be on local/state licensing of hand guns.

They have been the main culprit behind gun-related homicide and injuries for quite some time now, not AR-pattern rifles and certainly not any assault rifles (given how expensive they are and the hoops to jump to get one, of course they wouldn't be).

Handguns are worth more scrutiny when it comes to licensing, purchases, and training (especially for open or concealed carry).
