  •  Oh Nate, you ruined their fun (8+ / 0-)

Okay, so Nate Silver didn't fit in at the Times because he based his opinion on facts. This Politico article sums up what is wrong with the media boneheads - hahahaha my day is made & I heart Nate even more. Margaret Sullivan of The Times, minus my bold observations:

"entire probability-based way of looking at politics ran against the kind of political journalism that The Times specializes in: polling (wrong), the horse race (wasn't one), campaign coverage (whitewashed), analysis based on campaign-trail observation (fluff), and opinion writing, or 'punditry,' (almost always wrong) as he put it, famously describing it as 'fundamentally useless.'"

complimentary to the work Nate had done while employed at the Times.  But then two or three "important" Times columnists voiced disagreement with her positive treatment of Nate's tenure, at which time she backed down and wrote the blather about his not fitting in to the Times' journalistic philosophy.

Reminds me of the time Molly Ivins left the Grey Lady because she also didn't "fit in" to the paper's ideas about journalistic integrity and blah, blah, blah.

covers politics. Refusing to abandon the facts and the truth (which is a different thing) doesn't fit in anywhere.

Let's hope his new home understands that and decides to live with the discomfort as a reasonable price to pay for the eyeballs.
