  •  Atlanta got ahead of its fiscal problems (7+ / 0-)
ATLANTA - Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Council President Ceasar Mitchell on Wednesday applauded the Atlanta City Council on its 15-0 vote in favor of reforming the city’s retirement plan. The legislation avoids the need for personnel reductions and service cuts, and puts the city on a path toward greater fiscal stability in the upcoming fiscal year and beyond.

If Atlanta can do it, why can't other cities?

is pushing for legislation to change the city's retirement system right now. It would keep current employees and  retirees as they are but new employees would (in my understanding) have most of their retirement moved into a 401K style account with a more modest guaranteed pension, similar to what the federal government has done.

    •  Voting Machines and Kasim (4+ / 0-)

Georgia will never again be blue until GA gets rid of its electronic voting machines. The GOP only began "winning" there after 1992 when the machines were put in place (it's a MIRACLE!)

Second, Kasim has been photoed celebrating at the Stock Exchange whilst having Occupy protesters arrested left and right during the anti-big banks camp outs. There were stories released that the Occupiers were costing the city millions because the city just had to send out 'copters, tactical teams, etc. Kasim would let the Occupiers stay then change his mind then change his mind again. I wonder the cause of the moral confusion (cough). He helped demonize Occupy for sure.

Kasim works for the same man most other greedy politicians do.

      Strange but not a stranger.
