  •  They both ran as being the true conservative (0+ / 0-)

I dont think anybody has questioned Enzi's commitment to conservatism.

    •  Compared to Bob Bennett? Same thing. (1+ / 0-)

It's the Veruca Salt shit which really ought to stop; it's sexism.  Folks didn't say the same thing about other legacy candidates like Lee and Paul, neither of whom had the prior public service which Cheney does.

(Enzi worked on the Marketplace Fairness Act; that's where the attacks will start.)

      •  Found Cheney's reason for running: ageism (1+ / 0-)

RUSH:  By the way, Mike Enzi, current seat holder is, I think, a friend of your father's, they fished together.  How is that going down between your family and the Enzis, this --

LIZ CHENEY:  You know, I have a lot of respect for Mike.  I think they may have fished together once.  I think that, you know, I can tell you that I respect his 18 years of service to the state.  And it's not personal, you know, this is very much about policy and substance in the future.  And I believe it's time for a new generation. It's time for somebody who will be a strong voice in Washington for Wyoming.  So it's certainly not personal.  It's about the future and about, you know, not having the luxury to sit by and wait.

So Enzi is too old to continue serving, we need someone younger. She references policy and substance, but doesnt articulate any policy differences.
      •  Also Mike Lee had prior public service as (0+ / 0-)

and Assistant US attorney in Salt Lake City and as general counsel to Jon Huntsman when he was governor. He also clerked for Alito.

... but it's not an area in which Cheney is deficient.

          •  Which is why I have no problem with Cheney (1+ / 0-)

running for office if she chooses. She has as much right as the next person to do so. My issue with her is her carpetbagging to Wyoming, a state she has never lived in, giving the excuse that Cheneys have lived in Wyoming since 1852 so nobody should have a problem with her flying in from McClean, VA to run a senate campaign.

Lee and Paul at least had spent time in their respective states before running for office. And as politically connected as Lee's family is, I dont think many people saw him as riding the family name to an office he felt entitled to. That certainly isn't the case for Rand Paul who cashed in on daddy's fame and network to get his seat.

      •  You sure we didn't say similar things then, too? (0+ / 0-)

I sure thought them.  Lots of people aren't crazy about the idea of family dynasties in American politics.  Particularly  when the only asset seems to be the family connection.  Any public service every done by Cheney has been more than outweighed by the damage she's done providing cover for her dear papa.

        •  It seems nastier and more personal here. (1+ / 0-)

And I've seen Veruca Salt and Smurfette invoked as to Cheney in ways that men don't get attacked.

          •  Agreed. I just responded to a post below that (1+ / 0-)

called her a "scold".  I think the nastiness and more personal aspects of it are due more to the absolute disdain and hatred we feel towards her father and now for her because she was always out there defending him and his policies.  However, this site definitely exhibits more than enough sexism whenever a female candidate is discussed - whether it's one of ours or one of theirs.
