We were discussing the ability/duty to retreat vs. stand your ground.

If one no longer can retreat, then obviously it's not much of an option, is it?

So, in the context of the larger discussion, would you advise your daughter to 'retreat' and get the hell out of dodge, or stand her ground and gun down her spouse?

the comment above that one should "absorb the abuse".  Masochists can decide for themselves to do so if they choose, I suppose, but it should not be suggested that all people have any such (ridiculous) obligation.

      •  How is retreating (0+ / 0-)

'absorbing' the abuse? It's leaving a dangerous situation before it escalates with deadly force to either person involved.

And it certainly depends on what sort of abuse you're talking about. I doubt you would condone killing a man who criticizes your choice of sock color, no matter how much it hurts your feelings.

And no, I'm not talking about being defensive over minor matters ... but the person above seemed to believe that "absorb the abuse" is applicable no matter the situation, which caused to think about the extremes that are possible.
