  •  I am 100% supportive of single payer health care (8+ / 0-)

And I think the ACA will eventually make it easier to get to that destination once more people (namely greedy business owners and the people they can brainwash) get used to it as being seen as something everyone has and expects.  Basically, the new normal.

But that's going to take a while.  It's going to take time for this to be digested culturally before there is really enough popular support to make political and corporate stonewalling insufficient to resist change.  However, by no means am I saying to give up the fight in the meantime.  Awareness and understanding is key, and even if you can't sway minds all the way to a single payer system because of people's naturally conservative tendencies, maybe the good arguments for it will be enough to sway them to be more supportive of a half-measure like Obamacare.  If we can get them to accept that, then the single payer system will come all the sooner.

I must qualify my support of single payer a little bit.  I do recognize that costs can be extremely high and also that allowing elements of a free market can really drive innovation.  So I see a single payer health care system with a more gold-plated system on top as probably the best mix not only to get service delivery and coverage, but to help get some key players onboard and to still drive innovation.  Basically, I see single payer like public transit: sure, not necessarily the preferred mode of transit, but if you want to get somewhere at a reasonable cost then yeah, you can eventually get there or at least pretty close.  Private health insurance and care providers will be more like taxis and limo service.  If you're willing to pay the price you can get to your destination more quickly and comfortably and right to the doorstep.  There's room for both to co-exist.
