  •  Democratic State Senators and Assembly Reps (24+ / 0-)

were present and singing at the Sing Along, but the police avoid them and don't arrest them. The police know too well that arresting any Democratic legislator will attract too much negative attention from the press.

appear to have bought into the status quo on this stuff. Where the hell are they in such situations. Happily ensconced in their safe Congressional districts, and eager not to make waves, is where they are...

We have to fight and win this at the local and state levels. And get some elected reps arrested. Whatever it takes to wake people TFU.

    •  Thanks, I didn't get from the diary or comments (4+ / 0-)

that they were present. Glad some were there, but at a certain point, putting themselves between police and protesters is an appropriate action, even it means risking arrest. They have the privilege to do so and should use it.

Unfortunately, at our own sit-in after the vote went down, all we got was a wave from Wendy Davis and others as they left on their way to a political rally.

As we sat surrounded by DPS, it was clear where it was going. Nnot a single Dem stopped to observe or ensure that we were going to be treated fairly.

Instead, DPS moved in on us like animals. A protestor was body slammed into the ground, receiving 10 staples in the back of his head. Others were manhandled, and my friend was tased. In the process of detaining her, her pants were pulled off.

You can watch her testimonial here:

Unlike Wisconsin, Texas doesn't yet have the Dems who are willing to stand with protestors who are risking arrest.
