    if there is no functioning city, who will support the teams and arena?
    The same folks who are already supporting the Red Wings: Washtenaw and Oakland County residents who blow in for a Wings game twice a week, and then race as quickly as they can back out of Detroit as soon as the horn sounds at the end of the 3rd period.

    I absolutely love hockey and the Wings are my second-favorite team, but this is a complete waste of taxpayer money. They should invest that money in the people who actually live in Detroit, not in suburbanites who have no interest in rebuilding the city into a working and living community.

      I love the Wings. I grew up with them and they're still my favorite hockey team. But it astounds me that public money can be put to building a new arena for them, but we can't use that money to help the city directly.
