  •  TIFs, I think, are the biggest boondoggle (6+ / 0-)

    this century. (Well, maybe I'm being a tad hyperbolic...) but they have been used in Chicago to dole out money to the insiders and the 1%. Even when the end project does some good, the moneymongers get their vig.

    The lack of transparency about them is a huge problem. I'm happy to note that in April my Alderman (Ameya Pawar) intoduced an ordinance that has now passed the City Council that has resulted in a database where people can go to find out everything they always wanted to know but could never find out about where this money was going and who benefits. This is a big step forward for us and I'm really happy with this new first-term Alderman. He's a progressive from the heart out.
