  •  Actually, some aspects of the smart grid ARE smart (8+ / 0-)

but it should NOT be put on the internet, not even on a VPN. And the pisser is, the Grid is all wires. They could use their own existing wiring to form a completely isolated web that hackers can't access.
But they are planning to use the Web as the backbone.
I await the night when someone decides to switch off LA for a minute, then Chicago for 15 seconds then Miami for 45 seconds, just for the fun of it.

If I ran this circus, things would be DIFFERENT!

PRISM, PERFECT CITIZEN & RIOT: The Surveillance Trio

PERFECT CITIZEN is designed to spot unusual activity in databases of infrastructure companies.  Why is it called PERFECT CITIZEN and not SAVE OUR POWER or something related to utilities?

What analysts found most unnerving about Perfect Citizen is how it works.

The surveillance ....  would rely on a set of sensors deployed IN computer networks
Isn't it the "sensors deployed IN computer networks" that is so alarming about PRISM?
In 2010, Perfect Citizen was revealed by the Wall Street Journal.
However, when the WSJ gained access to internal emails from Raytheon Corp., the contractor awarded the secret contract worth up to $100 million according to sources familiar with Perfect Citizen (though the documents seem to indicate the contract is worth up to around $90 million), it was revealed that Raytheon didn’t see it as such.

One email stated, “Perfect Citizen is Big Brother.”

Unsurprisingly, Raytheon refused to comment on the find.

It's difficult to be happy knowing so many suffer. We must unite.

looking forward to the smart grid.

Should have figured they'd turn it into some kind of surveillance nonsense that is in fact totally insecure.

      Ou sont les neigedens d'antan?
