  •  How long before final votes are also secret? (1+ / 0-)

At least, now, final votes on bills are public and even posted online.  How long before, to protect us from terrists, those will be made secret?

I'm not driven completely nuts (just partially so) by this particular insanity that Bernie has exposed,  because I can look at the final bill and make a judgement about the votes.  But I don't see it as being that unlikely that the last vestige of democracy will be crushed through secrecy even at the level of the actual votes.  If we can have secret laws (!!!!%^&#*^$^!!!), and secret appropriations, why not secret votes?

    •  Actually secret ballot would work too (0+ / 0-)

The key is that it has to be a REAL secret ballot, like our voting booth. Not like this arrangement where the voters are kept in the dark, but the super special 10 senators know everything. I could favor a system where ALL communications between representatives are public, but their final votes are secret. This will minimize the deal making and the undue influence of the party whips.

Of course this system would work better in a large body like the House, where the sheer number makes conspiracies impossible.

      •  Have you completely lost your mind? (0+ / 0-)

How are voters supposed to judge the performance of elected officials?  I respond to this idea with a shrieking WTF?
