    This is one of those movies that has many, many levels.  There are the political and sociological levels, and the artistic level. And then there is the level at which these two planes intersect and reinforce or detract from each other.

    I need some time for reflection, but off the top of my head I would say that artistically it is a home run.  There is excellent, creative casting, and, as tmservo said, very solid direction.
    The characters are believable and sympathetic and fully dimensional, except for the BART police who are cartoons.  
    If you are looking for a movie that portrays all the moral ambiguities of this case, you will be disappointed.  This is a film about Oscar Grant, his struggles, his triumphs, his joys, his despair.  His portrait is  fully realized and fully tragic.

    Go see it.
