  •  Which is why we need events (12+ / 0-)

WISN is every bit as guilty, as is WIBA in Madison. This is why "balance in media" events are needed, because people don't even ask why there are ZERO liberal talk shows in Milwaukee, when 70% of Milwaukee County vote for Obama and over 60% against Walker.

BALANCE is the key. Righties can have their squawk show filled with lies and deceptions, but it is outrageous that liberals don't have any chance to counter that message in the state's largest media market. Because there are 9 hours of hate every weekday to promote RW memes and answers, the "MSM" feels they have to respond to them when the righties decide to "work the refs" (or is ordered to make it a story by their bosses). However, liberals don't have such an outlet and HAVE to protest as a result.

It's well past time we turn the camera around, and shine the spotlight on the media itself.

by prominently quoting their favored side first and then bury opposition late in coverage if at all.

These events this week show just how hard our TM is working to protect the GOP and their uniformed goon squad.

    •  PS- we should work the refs ourselves (11+ / 0-)

By the way, a good way to change some of the talk is to use social media to contact and call out media types. I've actually gotten writers to change some of their story when I gave them needed details that they were leaving out, or exposed a lie by an organization such as Media Trakkkers or some other related RW propaganda outlet.

While the Wisconsin media have been lazy lapdogs, I think they are becoming aware that we're onto them, and they don't want to be seen as a questionable outlet by Joe Sixpack. Using Twitter and Facebook to vigilantly call out media lies is something we need to do more of, because the MSM will respond to it if the lies become too apparent.

If there's one thing media cares about, it's how they look to the public (even more than if they're getting the story right). So make them fearful of looking bad and let them know we're watching them.

        and I'm not alone.

Right now newspapers are struggling as readership is declining anyway.  While they have hopes of gaining revenue via their online sources, being pointed to as a propaganda outlet and shamed for their shoddy coverage won't help them gain subscribers.

With these corporate types, the bottom line means more than their reputation.

      •  I think that's a great strategy (8+ / 0-)

and I'm a Twitter user.  Using Twitter and FB is a perfect way IMHO to hold reporters accountable in real time----it prevents a lie or misinformation from being taken as truth if the lie is called out immediately.  I tweet every single WI diary and encourage everyone on DK to do it.  I mentioned this in a few of my comments going back to Wed. and Thurs. of this week----tweet the heck out of these diaries because if enough people do it, you're informing thousands upon thousands of people all over what's happening here and our tweets will beat out any story a newspaper reporter writes and even a lot of the television reporters as well.  I'm mad at myself though that there are a couple of things from the WI diaries the past couple of days that I could have tweeted immediately instead of just the diary itself (ex. Capitol police arresting 80 year olds for singing.)
