some time ago, like last year.

And then spent some time doing public service - for free, such as serving on his community board, and volunteering at a non-profit.

And only then, after a couple years (or a decade) of low profile public service, can his new record of clean public service be evaluated for evidence of a rehabilitated pol who just got mixed up.

He hasn't proven anything "is in the past" much lest that "all of that is in the past."

When Weiner declared, I joked with my spouse that he would have been better off using some of the treasure-trove he has remaining from his old campaign fund to support another candidate for Mayor this election and then hope for appointment to a high position in which he could demonstrate proven capacity.  Any new Mayor is going to be around for eight years at best given NYC's election laws.  Weiner is pretty young, so even such a long delay would not totally torpedo his desire to be elected Hizzoner.  Of  course, that was before the rest of the story started to drip out, because it's proving so corrosive and toxic that his future is starting to disassemble right before our very eyes.

And his unwillingness to do that shows another aspect of  gross political incompetence, IMO.

I may add that to my Weiner critique. I hadn't been active in the discussions but just got sick of the apologia, so I had to pull some thoughts together.

Now I'm a little shocked at what looks like blind-folded support for male sexual predatory behavior falsely disguising this as an expression of mutual desire by consenting adults. Not accusing anyone of intentionally lying, but the lack of recognition is kind of scary.
