of this that and the other thing, but the meet-up was real, and so am I. Hi y'all and it was great to meet yuze.

Anybody who's interested, there's a fight going on right now to designate La Bajada Mesa as a National Monument. That's the stretch of high land, like a ridge you come over, when you're approaching Santa Fe from the south, up from Cochiti Pueblo. Where slow traffic gets an extra lane to the right, and then you come up over the rise and you see Santa Fe ahead, and the Sangre de Christo Mountains for the first time there.

If this effort, or fight does not succeed, all that wild high land will soon succumb to mining and real estate interests, guaranteed. Very soon. They got their fangs into it as I write. Urban sprawl, Santa Fe style. Try to imagine a condo on that ridge.

There's a group of people who have been working to block this for a while, in conjunction with Cochiti Pueblo Elders and local ranchers... it's kinda complex, politically speaking. Opposing interests and so on. Any support  (even if just verbal) would be much appreciated, if you phone Dianne Strauss at 505 988 4060, and she can clue you in.
