heartbreaking but really great.  How could I not read it -- especially when I'm so fond of you!

I'm not a Florida person (too hot, too flat, too humid) but I love the ecosystems -- they are myriad -- and they have been abused by corporations and governments -- I'm looking at the Army Corps of Engineers (hey, that Kissemmee River looks too crooked, let's straighten it out -- oops, let's curve it up -- assholes) and other federal and state assholes.

    •  LOL About Changing Rivers (13+ / 0-)

Here in my area we thought that would be a good idea when we rebuilt a few highways. Streams really, but in other parts of the nation you'd call them rivers. We just have the Mississippi a few miles from me and that is a river.

The farmers who had farmed the land for generations were like I don't think what you are proposing is a good idea. You don't get the concept of drainage.

      They were mocked.

Funny thing, the follks that farm the land with their hands seems to know about the land.

Now the areas where they made changes are literally underwater 24/7. Heck it got so bad that the baseball fields and second parking lot at the local high school flood. I recall being at a town hall meeting and a person saying this would happen, cause they were not built high enough.
