Obama won't take his SS and Medicare cuts off the table and won't demand that the Cantor Gang detail their own.  Instead, the Gangsters will say it's all up to him because he has to be the leader and he's never led on  this before even though he has yadda-yadda, which David Gregory and the other Village Idiots will dutifully pass along without comment or context, so Obama will start negotiating with himself and the Gangsters will keep playing coy until finally they say "No deal!" but only once they've accumulated enough Obama-the-Socialist-Wall-Street-shill-and-the Democrats-want-to-gut-your-Social-Security press stories that the rabid mobs of Foxbot voters who turn out for the midterms will hand the GOP another mid-cycle win.

It's weird how our politics these days can be both lethal and tedious at the same time.

      •  Not so; the GOP is desperate, that's all (1+ / 0-)

Obama has already made an offer, on lowering corporate tax rates in exchange for repatriating corporate profits and using the new tax monies on them to pay for jobs stimulus. Haven't you heard?

The GOP is simply desperate. They are slowly beginning to realize that they aren't going to have a 'permanent majority' and that when they did have all branches of government they didn't kill off the New Deal when they had the chance. Now they want Obama to do it so they can blame him.

My question to the GOP? what is government for except for 'promoting the general welfare' rather than protecting blind and stupid private interests?

      •  Uhm, Joan...what if this political game (0+ / 0-)

gets enacted...the same way the sequestration cuts did?

This time, Obama should take them up on it, at least to the extent of telling them to make him an offer. Take his own offers for cutting the programs off the table and tell them to put theirs out there, since obviously they're not going to bite on his. This time, let Republicans own the cuts to these programs. Make them put their names on them, make them insist that unless they get those cuts, they'll shut down government.
Are you willing to risk seeing cuts made to social security and medicare?

Both parties would blame the other, the same way they did when the sequestration were triggered...even though both parties were guilty...I'm not certain this would work the way it did for Clinton.

as a fan and frequent user of long, sarcastic sentences, that one in the middle is one of the best-and-truest i've read in quite a while
