From wherever they choose to appear from, thank you very much.

In Kelly the Cat's case, Jerry has reprimanded her for daring to treat first class passengers as if they were in steerage ("Steerage" being named so because the cabins are below deck near the ship's noisy rudder controls, and thus the cheapest on board) and later Jerry mentions Kelly being fed by 'half the crew' who, it would be assumed, also stay below decks. So Kelly is likely a below-decks cat. But now she's adventuring in the rarefied. albeit smoky. air of first class.

Thanks for commenting and for raising the question. Answering it, though, leads me to ask other questions. Such as, does Kelly feel as if she were 'slumming upscale?' And does either Evan or Otis feel the same way?  I shall ponder that. And that is a good thing, I think.

    best,

...SS Oligarch turned out to have been a computer powered by a black hole, are you suggesting that this cat could really be named something like, "Schrödinger?" An interesting idea, although this one is a small lady cat and Schrödinger is such a big and (to my Anglo-American ear) masculine sounding name.

Whatever happens, I think that Kelly's part will turn out to be more than a walk-on.

        best,
