    This kind of thing is one of the "luxuries" of living in a modern world.  We now all expect to have our children outlive us.  So much so that when they don't it is noteworthy on too many levels.

    I've thought about this for a long time, and have exactly the same kind of reaction you do when I hear people make this kind of pronouncement.

    It's really a sign of historical (or geographical/class) privilege, that far too few of us are aware of.
