  •  I used to put a nylon stocking over the hose so (7+ / 0-)

    the water is filtered through before it gets into the sink drain.  The drain stopped needing so much clean out after that.

    That doesn't work at this house, no laundry tub, just a drain pipe.

      out-flow hose from the washing machine to the sink, AND a drain filter over the out-flow from the sink! those both help. AND the front-loader seems to be easier on the clothes, too, they don't deteriorate and develop holes nearly  as fast as they used to... but it's still too much for that poor, basically flat section of the drain pipe!

      "real" work : a job where you wash your hands BEFORE you use the bathroom...

        is to clear the pipe, works better than cold.  You can fill the wash sink with hot water, then plunge a little as the big flush is going on.  Thats all I have without using a snake or chemicals.
