maybe they were "affronted" because he scheduled a meeting with them at the last minute not because he really wanted to give them some respect by meeting with them, but because he wanted to deep six Alan Grayson's bipartisan hearing where critics of the NSA program would be allowed to testify, and where they could discuss the latest revelations about NSA spying with Greenwald who was scheduled to testify via Skype? And because he scheduled his meeting with House Dems to conflict with that hearing, they had to defer to him and postpone the meeting until September?

Instead, the exec branch decided to release newly declassified NSA related documents (Verizon orders I believe) timed to coincide with a bogus Senate Judiciary hearing where all the panel witnesses but one were NSA friendly and none of the senators really said anything new, completely ignored the revelations that came out this morning, threw softball questions very narrowly limited to the 215 metadata program and talked about the bills they were going to propose.

And then the House Dems meeting turned into a birthday party for the president, with Nancy Pelosi arranging for a big, special cake for him and everyone had to sing happy birthday?

And maybe the House Dems themselves were a bit testy, particularly the women who support Yellen for Fed chair, when Obama decided to try to sell Larry Summers to them?

Or could it be the way Nancy Pelosi twisted their arms last week to vote to support the president and the exec branch intel agencies on the Amash amendment when the next day, 61 of 83 no voters came to her and told her they were very uncomfortable with their votes and urged her to write a letter to the president?

Maybe they were miffed because they were hearing about yet another set of documents released by the Guardian about NSA programs nobody had told them about?

I don't know, maybe those things had something to do with it.
