although this is a rhetorical question, and not at all meant to delve into your finances; how are you set for retirement?  We're in FL, and most corporations have asked their "older" workers to take early retirement.  My husband did, because when this occurred in the 80's they found a way to fire those who didn't go along.

So along with 401k and severance pay, after 24 yrs with a utility, my husband left with the equivalent of 18 mos. pay.  Yup, that's it.  We are underwater in the home we've owned for 18 yrs.  He receives 1K/ mo. pension, which will disappear with the next corporate buyout.  We will both work until we expire if the minimum wage jobs hold out.  The way it is now, like jackals we are killing each other to get and keep them.  We can be fired for any reason, so day to day job "security" is a joke.

Its working out just like the rich folks planned.

    Please save a child's life.

    •  As a rhetorical question, that has definite merit. (1+ / 0-)

And it's definitely true that we could face poverty in the future if our respective employers either go out of business or decide to screw over their older employees.
