    it had a heron like shape, and the long wings.  The overwhelming feature was its whiteness.

    We also saw bald eagles near Yellowstone, in trees along the river.

    However my big sandhill crane experience was along the Platte River in Nebraska, near Hastings, where they rest in groups of tens of thousands.  February in Nebraska requires some whiskey, however.
