    as well as the battleship Alabama. The Drum is a claustrophobic experience. Those guys in the silent service, no matter what flag they fought under, were the very definition of brave. I have not had the chance to visit other subs on display, but would like to.

    Compared to the Drum, the Alabama moored next to it is like a luxury cruise.  Of course, the work environment on almost any warship would give an OSHA inspector a stroke.

    Visiting the Hunley is on my bucket list. I am glad they recovered it and were able to give the crew a proper military burial. For submariners, the Hunley is the iconic equivalent of the Wright Flyer for aviators.
