the fact that it's never used toward or about women?

The use of "pussy" to mean "insufficiently masculine" is pretty well-documented.  It is not about cats.

    •  I've seen it used toward or about women. (0+ / 0-)

        Not in the same sense.

Tne English Oxford Dictionary would be good right about now, because it would have the most enumerated meanings of the word.  You could accuse a woman of having a pussy, but it wouldn't be the same enumerated definition.

        •  Meh. I personally don't find it to be anymore (1+ / 0-)

'sexist' than the words 'dick' or 'asshole'.
          It's an insult.

But it isn't considered OK to use here & there are plenty of other insults to be used.

I disagree with the premise, but I abide by the word being taboo here.
Fairly easy thing to avoid & if it bothers people that much, no reason to use it.

          •  I have no problem with it. (0+ / 0-)

Unless the moderators make an official judgment about it in the FAQ, which I'm not aware of.

I just went searching for pussy on dailykos!  Here's one I found.  A George W. Pussy rap song.

Can we all just admire that for a moment?  If everybody who argued about "taboo words" had this attitude -- "if it bothers people that much, no reason to use it" -- instead of trying to explain why the words shouldn't bother people, we'd all be better off for it.
    •  I see what you are saying... (0+ / 0-)

and I agree it is offensive and I wouldn't use it or allow my children to use it, but I always thought it came from 'pussy cat'.  I guess you live and you learn.  Thanks.
