According to a family member who does genealogical research we are related to the first person hanged in the Plymouth colony.

He came over with his family and they were not part of the Leiden congregation. He shot and killed someone he had quarreled with over the years.

quarrel was related to land. I have a Puritan ancestor who int he 1640s was killed in such a quarrel. A tribe living up the St. Charles river had caught him in the act of building a cabin to steal the land where they lived.

According to sources I've seen the family was living on the edge for most of the time. He was in trouble several times for challenging orders from Myles Standish and was implemented in a revolt against the church. His wife was sentence to sit in the stocks and to be whipped for slander. One of his sons discharged his musket on the Mayflower while it was anchored off of Cape Cod, nearly igniting a barrel of powder (early gun fail?). Who says history is dull?
