  •  As for the topic of books… (4+ / 0-)

I must have read A Wrinkle in Time a million times over as a kid — that and Little Women and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I spent many a night reading into the wee hours in my sister's and my walk-in closet. (I think I spent my time more productively than my sister, who watched old movies far into the night with the TV on her stomach & a blanket pulled up over her head… no kidding.)

I read Annie Dillard's memoir while part of a book group in Pittsburgh — she didn't live very far from where we met that night.

I think I need to do a better job of writing down my memories of my youth — born on Long Island, kindergarten in a Chicago suburb, and then growing up in the San Fernando Valley (where I spent the bulk of my childhood). My internet friend Joanna Brooks (Book of Mormon Girl) beat me in this regard, though my trajectory is in most ways dissimilar. Working on it.
