    the nouveau riche, the ones who just got lucky, they left.

    The ones who had land, connections, roots, they didn't.

    •  And, as we know, that is a tiny, tiny percentage (5+ / 0-)

      of people.

      Conservatives always want to have it both ways, which is impossible:

      1)  If you raise taxes on the rich, that doesn't raise enough money to solve the problem.  There's simply too little money to be had by taxing the rich.

      and at the same time:

      2) If you raise taxes on the rich, they'll leave!  

      Well, if there wasn't much money to be raised by taxing them (according to the Cons), what difference does it make if they leave?

      Progressive taxes are good for society. They reduce income inequality and help fund the government that everyone needs.
