    In the end I think it is about what a person can bear, and goals.  If you're trying to convince people who feel basically good, who want to be good, but who are disinterested, then universal morality is probably necessity.  If you're trying to hand back shame and contempt (as a trans person, I get to do that from time to time) then the direct approach works better (whether they are convinced to change or not, they're wearing it, and they know it).  In the end I think it is always about -- does this society offer the conditions necessary for individual dignity?  And can I put that in a way you will understand, where you are now?  Anyway...sorry to go on.  Back to work!
