the intelligence subtending the closures, as he stated yesterday when talking with Chuckles:

SCHIFF: What I understand is there's a high level of confidence in the sources of the information on it. We get chatter all the time. It's often very non-specific, sometimes it's from less than credible sources. But to take this kind of a broad action, to shut down this many embassies over this broad a terrain, to have multiple briefings to the President in the course sometimes of a single day, that demonstrates a high level of confidence that this threat is real, that the attack planning is real, that it's not idle chatter and it's not an effort to simply distract us from something else they're [AQAP] doing.

And would be far more likely to fall in line like a good little citizen if our reps would stop asserting that questioning the NSA was dangerous if terrorists somewhere want to hurt us.

Why? Why is it dangerous to question the NSA because there are terrorists who want to hurt us?

Does questioning the NSA = giving aid and comfort to terrorists? because that seems to be the general drift of the argument.

I would argue that focusing tons of resources on the activities of 320 million Americans, 99.99% of which are not terrorists and never will be, is a much more likely way to give aid to terrorists, just as spying on the entire population of a city makes it more difficult to focus on particular criminals, which gives the criminals a much likelier chance of accomplishing their goals.

However, even if that proves not to be the case, there is NO EVIDENCE that it's a bad idea to question the NSA  when there's problems with terrorists abroad. Where is the causation here?

      •  The diarist brought up Schiff... (0+ / 0-)

though with only a paraphrase, so I assumed that some might appreciate some context wrt how Schiff understands the nature of the threat, pending the diary's update with a transcript. Make of it what you will...

. it's not just the united states or allies are also evacuating their personnel and closing their embassies because the attack could be on the u.s., it could be on our allies. we are taking this action because this is the most lethal of all the affiliates and we have good reason to believe this is an actable plot

          >> you said yesterday that people commenting on this threat they were being sloppy about those comments. are you worried too much information is now getting out there and trying to raise attention and understanding of what is going on? is that a big worry that the public doesn't have a specific or doesn't need to know the specifics? they just need to know that something could have happened?

i am very concerned about it. if the reports are correct about intercepted communications between zawahiri and al siree that could be damaging because they will try to figure out who is in the line of communication? what electronic sources they may have used. so that is very damaging if that is, in fact, true. similarly talk about this program might be useful or that program may have been used or this technology. none of that should be discussed while there is an ongoing threat to the country. it's one thing to look back five years later and say what plots did this particular program, was it utilized, discovered in terms of evaluating whether those programs are successful and useful or not.

He's really desperately trying to raise his profile.

This clown was actually in the New Democrat Coalition and the Progressive Caucus at the same time.  I mean, for a couple of years.

He was my Congressmen for years.  Intellectual integrity is not exactly one his hallmarks.

Mr. Universe is a known degenerate Robotophile, and his sources include former Browncoat Traitors. What is their agenda in leaking top secret information about the Reavers and endangering us all?
