    •  It was Feb of 2002 for me (none)
in the middle of the "Small Footprint" debate in January, 2002, I knew these stupid bastards would fuck this up

doesn't make it any better that I knew

    •  I remember watching... (none)
some breathless coverage on CNN one Saturday around the time of the invasion (or it may have been after they toppled that statue) where military families had lined the streets in one southern military town (I think it was South Carolina).

The families were out there with their flags and their signs, standing along the median of a road lined with Taco Bells and McDonalds, and waving and cheering in glee at all of the honking cars. The correspondent went up to one woman, holding a baby to her chest, and asked her, "What are you feeling right now?" To which the woman fawned, "Oh, it's the best time ever. The BEST TIME ever."

With this, I stopped for the moment and marvelled at the sheer stupidity of what she just said. I wonder now, today, if it's still "the best time ever."?
