      are embedded in the context of the argument. If I am making an argument for a particular position I clearly have motives in making that argument. To accuse me of having ulterior motives not related to the position verges on being personal. I did not do that.

        It's one thing to say that one's argument is sanctimonious, but it's over the line to call someone sanctimonious, which is how I read your comment above.  

        But, because it's such a fine line when taking that approach, it's probably better to avoid that kind of charge all together and simply stick to what you perceive to be the flaws that don't raise a personal charge at all, whether "embedded in the context of the argument" or not.
