Yes indeedy we have these lovely things which were made illegal in Md. btw.  As a (Norhtern) Vrginian, I understood that by several sleights of hand, they receive state funding.  Given that they are blatantly religious organizations, such support is facially unconstitutional (at least until the current era).

I made these arguments to the Democratic governor (an anti abortionist who pledged while running to do nothing to inhibit abortion) as he was considering the license plate bill.  Of course after much strutting and fretting, he signed the damned law.  He now is one of our senators with much to answer for.

But, hey, it's just Chinatown, er Virginia...

PS  The bill also included the right to purchase a timidly wordered--who here would care to run the risks attendant blatant advocacy??!!!!--choice slogan with some funds going who remembers where...

I didn't know that. Thanks. Charlottesville has two of those damned things and only one real one.

the State of Maryland was all of a doo dah upon having discovered these frauds.  They quickly produced legislation designed to deal with the frauds.  O'Malley happily signed it.

Given the legislative process ("People who love law and sausages should watch neither being made!"--Kaiser Wilhelm), I recite only what I understood from reports and friends of similar outrage in Md. seemed to portray.  Nevertheless, the popular understanding is as I stated.

Happy hunting, and here's to an awakening in Charlottesville.

        Absolutely love the LBJ quotation.

Just googled " Maryland crisis pregnancy center". Came up on the first page a little ways down. Apparently disclosure violates their First Amendment rights and hurts their fee-fees. Never knew that the First Amendment was a license to defraud women.
