  •  Jerry Cannon should do well in MI, a state (6+ / 0-)

that tends to love the military.  His record in law enforcement is another plus.  Benishek will have to do a lot of retail campaigning to overcome Cannon's record of service to the nation and to the local citizenry.  It's nothing less than amazing that Cannon didn't get pulled to the far right with so many in the military and law enforcement.
Terry Land, our former SOS, is allied with big GOP money on the west side of the state and with the Mackinac Center, a rightwing think tank.  She was relatively harmless as a SOS, but so was Candice Miller, now a state rep who never has an original thought and who hews to the GOP talking points/formula at all times.  Land's money makes her formidable.  But she has a schoolteacher look, which is odd in a party that seems to despise teachers.

    •  Miller's a US rep, not a state one. (1+ / 0-)

And I still don't buy Land as the formidable candidate everyone was making her out to be.  I've heard very little from her at this point, while Peters seems to be all over the place.  And the fact that Camp is considering a run might imply that maybe the party's not happy with Land.

Agreed about Cannon though.  I wouldn't want him running in one of the Detroit area districts or anything.  But he should do well in an area that's ancestrally Democratic, but also more conservative.

    •  Land is still a tough sell for the MI TEActivists (0+ / 0-)

She is not "one of them", and while she is from the "G-Rap" GOP power center, she has to demonstrate some "loyalty to the cause." I think she will be less than convincing and leave the door open for a serious, if ultimately unsuccessful Primary challenger.
