    from the getgo, especially once he got to know him and his background.  Pretty typical Wingnut, and I'm sorry such conflict exists.  There's nothing worse than conflicting political and social views in a family, especially when certain individuals are so adamant and unwilling to listen to others.

    It also sounds like your dad has a few issues of his own, i.e. his own personal fears and regrets that have shaped the outlook of his life (and likely projecting onto others like your husband). I don't mean to play psychologist, and I apologize if I'm offending you (I realize he is your dad and all). But again, he sounds like a typical close-minded Wingnut. Unfortunately, many families have 'em (like me), especially in Bible Belt states like here in Kansas. It's such a sticky situation, and my heart goes out to you.
