I hope, for your sake, that your Father takes some time to reconsider his opinion.

The problem that many people have when it comes to discussing this is that they want the people who receive govt support to be "failures" in life.  That way, they can condemn the government.

If they aren't "failures," then that damages the entire underpinning of their position against govt.

Did your Father suggest that you husband's family should have joined a different church?

He suggested they join a different church that could help. Granted, my husband's church was screwed up, but there are plenty of smaller churches struggling out there who just don't have the money to help anyone. If church charity became the only option, many will lose their members to large churches. You know, the ones who need $50,000 to pay for helicopter rotors. Funny, how he does not really see a problem with that.

I was asking because I couldn't imagine someone openly suggesting that one should choose their religious affiliation based upon the church's ability to give charity.

It seems less morally consistent to suggest that the person who changes churches for money is somehow the more stand up person.

sending aid to other nations. Unless it comes with his preferred missionary that is.

my brother told him that missionaries should live with the people they want to convert, and have those people take care of them (why they would is beyond me). Missionaries shouldn't raise money to live off of wherever they decide to work. I really find that odd, but there you go.
