    But nothing would ever reach stores without a truck, even if most of it is moved by rail. You have to get food to the stores from the train somehow, and that somehow is a truck. So perhaps they do cause damage, but no one would eat or wear clothes without them. It's a fair trade.

      The issue isn't trucks being used in local distribution.  The issue is using a relatively inefficient system (trucks) which are subsidized by the average driver for long distances.  Worse, it's being pummeled by morons who deride citizens who avail themselves of government assistance while they themselves suck on the public tit dumbly.  Trucks make sense for short and medium distances, and that's what they excel at.
