  •  I had to replace my computer. (11+ / 0-)

I am not happy with windows 8.  It sucks.  You see I started out in the 1960's key punching IBM cards.  And have been though all the growing pains of computer technology. But not including a word processing software in windows is just being greedy.  They do offer a free trial of windows office 2013 but dam it costs more then my laptop did.

It took me 2 days just to figure out how to shut it off.  LOL  I had to find the right charm. Chanting and swearing don't work.  It is like playing pool you have to put the curser into different corner pockets to get around.  I could care less about the apps features.  I had all that crap on my android and didn't use it.  If I wanted a tablet I would have bought one.  My needs are for writing and creative stuff.  I can't begin to think in 140 characters and I am already spelling challenged so I don't want to confuse myself in my old age with tweets.

I also treated myself to a new digital camera.  My old one is 17 years old.  One of the early expensive ones, that have served me well.  So I went about trying to load the picture software that came with my new camera into the new lap top and windows 8 crashed on the first try.  I had to pull the battery and do a reboot.  I haven't had to do that in many years.  I gave it another try and everything worked fine.  So I don't know what that was all about.  I have figured out flicker so my next challenge in learning to post pictures here.

I have noticed that some of the You tube clips I have to add the http to them and other I don't.  So I end up having to cancel my comments and doing a second try with them because I can never tell if they will post with out changing the code.

It was really hazy here today even after it rained.  I noticed it when I went out to pay a bill yesterday.  The air quality seems to be going down hill even with wind and rain to blow it out to the Gulf.  This kind of haze is what you used to see when the air was not moving in the heat.

Every one enjoy your day.  Take care Flmom when you go out side to day.

open office I think it's called. I'll double check with him once he wakes up. It is very similar to MS Office.  And yes, it was hazy here all day yesterday and air quality is low low low. I've had to do a lot more breathing treatments over the past few days. I'm not planning on going out other than to walk the dogs if I have to before anyone else is up. I'm not breathing well though, and am up way too early as a result.

      •  I'd like to put in a shout-out for Open Office too (3+ / 0-)

I use it with the Linux-running computer,  the laptop with all the file system errors (I think the disk is bad; I run Ubuntu off the DVD when I use it, but of course, I can't save anything on that machine in that condition). I like it just fine. I also like Corel WordPerfect Office, but it's spendy, too, though not as much as MS Office. Since they got their hands on a hefty piece of Corel's stock, they've been doing their usual mess-it-up bit on a competitor. But, enough about MS.

It  sounds like we have a similar history of "coming up in the computer age," trkingmomoe. I haven't had occasion to mess with Win8 yet, but I've heard nothing good about it. I have a friend whose goal with respect to his computers is to become both MS- and Intel-free. I may end up adopting that myself, who knows?

I wish everyone good luck with their computers, software and related peripherals!

What I want to know is, who's going to pay for these crimes against humanity that those b@st@rds are perpetrating against the rest of us?
