  •  That same "wicked witch" forced the repub (33+ / 0-)

caucus in the state leg to pass the medicaide increase and take the hit if needed. And with the medical community figured out a semi novel way to cover the states portion of the bill ....The Hospitals imposed a tax on themselves to cover our share so nothing need come from the general fund at all.....

Plus it's starting to look like it was a good idea to use the national exchange rather than set up a exchange for every state.....

She also forced them to add back some of what they took from education spending since the crash....plus she did not fight against our 3rd passage of med MJ as Napolitano did...

I'm not a fan of Brewer at all but she has not been the total nightmare we expected....

    •  Yeah... (5+ / 0-)

I haven't heard all bad things about Jan Brewer...

Of course course, one thing that she has to respond to is the growing racial/ethnic diversity in her state...the writing is on the wall in Arizona in terms of demographics generally and politics specifically.

    •  Nah, She's still been a nightmare. (6+ / 0-)

issues involved in the longest contiguous border with Mexico in the Nation as well as the housing crash cutting property values in half from your seat in Boston.

Not to mention the sales tax revenues falling off the cliff during the crisis and a legislature that is so far right they make Birchers seem sane.

Ghu I get sick of smug ass no nothing comments from the east coast.

          •  i am reccing this comment (0+ / 0-)

in spite of the snide tone (i don't see what was smug about my post) because of course you know more than a person from outside your state would know.

however, the political news out of your state is commented on harshly by people from many different places, not just by me in Boston.

and i believe that anyone on the Red team is poorly equipped to deal with the problems you mentioned (sinking property values, lower sales tax revenues, and a wingnut legislature).

i stand by my opinion, shared by many, that overall Brewer has been a disaster for your state, even if she has done a few good things and has recently seen the light about Medicaid.  I put her in the same class as Christie--a few good actions does not outweigh the harm she has done, and the cumulative national harm done by all the governors with an R next to their names.  OVERALL, as I said in my comment, she's been a disaster.  I don't see how you can disagree with that, but to each his/her own.

True, the President stuck you with Brewer for a short time.  But she won re-election in spite of (or because of) the "papers please" law--which people protested all over the place, not just in Boston.  I'm not sure why you are taking it out on me that Jan Brewer has been a big reason for people all over the country thinking of Arizona as wingnut central.

My heart goes out to the 40-45% blue vote in Arizona.  Brewer's attempt to circumvent the law and seek re-election will probably fail and she will be gone in the 2014 election cycle.  I hope along with you that you can get somebody better.  But if Cap'n Al's racist secessionist candidacy is not a joke, and there are enough hateradio listeners to vote him in office, then it really will be true that you can't spell CRAZY without R-AZ.

but she also hasn't been the unmitigated disaster she could have been considering the majorities in the Leg......

She gets props from me for a few actions, actions I'm not all that sure Napolitano would have stood behind.

I was very angry at the President for sticking us with Brewer so Napolitano could do nothing but screw immigrants and border dwellers harder than the Bush admin did.......Now, esp after the Medicaide fight, I have some respect for Brewer.  I would never vote for her,  but for a stand in, she could have done much worse...

We need to start organizing now as last I heard, ol cap'n Melvin is running for Gov next time....Now that would be an unmitigated disaster.....
