Some have dated the so-called Tea Party back to the TARP bailouts of the big banks.  And there are some in the Tea Party who may, indeed, have been part of those protests (the libertarian contingent, mostly).

But this Tea Party (what I call the electoral Tea Party, as it has become naught but an extremist arm of the Republican Party's corporate elite -- via Freedomworks, e.g. -- designed to rile up and rally the base come election day) began when the President took office in 2009.  Piggybacking (ostensibly) on Rick Santelli's screed (which itself could be heard as not-so-thinly veiled racism) they showed up by the tens in public spaces brandishing their birther signs, Obama/Hitler signs, Obama/Witch Doctor signs, and various other references, oblique and open, to the President's race.   They have always been found to be at least 80-85% die-hard Republican voters, never having voted Democrat in their lives, so when Freedomworks and Americans For Prosperity et al. swooped in to co-opt these Klan wannabes the signs were spiffed up for more "popular" consumption to be nearly denuded of racial references.

Well, you could keep a lid on that boiling cauldron of sh*t for only so long.

Is it courageous to propose tax cuts but not identify a single tax expenditure to rein in? Is it courageous to target your deepest cuts on the poorest Americans, who vote in lower numbers and provide little in campaign contributions?
