Apparently a lot of energy and fossil fuel goes into making fertilizer...much of which ends up used on farms in prime "stranded wind" areas. Make the ammonia in the agricultural area and offset the fossil energy that would otherwise go into making and transporting the fertilizer.

And if the local farm machinery & pickup trucks can burn ammonia instead of fossil diesel, then no pipeline needed.

What about heating nearby homes and businesses, too?

If methane is a primary component for making ammonia, why the heck isn't anyone making fertilizer in North Dakota instead of flaring off all that natural gas?

His idea was aimed primarily at the American midwest, where there's a lot of wind, a lot of water, a lot of fertilizer use, and not many people.

Instead of displacing petroleum from the transportation sector, use it to displace petroleum from the ag sector.  Very efficient in terms of distribution, as you point out!
