  •  I'm always extremely skeptical of alleged (15+ / 0-)

Progressives who warn not to bother (or warn of the evils ) of other progressive groups.

I want proof in that case, and a lot of it.

Karl Rove himself said that a good tactic is for conservatives to embed themselves in communities like ours and dissuade, disillusion and demotivate.

"Don't bother with MoveOn" seems like a perfect way to do that.

I've seen this in other areas: unsubstantiated allegations against people on the fringe doing good work. The allegations become rumors, which in turn I then  regularly hear repeated as fact. I've NEVER seen any proof of any of it though.

But these folks are working against industry, who has a lot to lose against organized advocacy groups. So they fight back underhandedly.

MoveOn is one of many groups that does good work. People should always research carefully before they donate or commit a bunch of time to any group.

But here's my thought on MoveOn: it's always mentioned by conservative pundits and politicians as an untoward heavyweight player whose power must be offset or even  limited.

That says to me that they're doing something right.

you're probably over the target.  Whether MoveOn is actually effective or not, the bad guys sure seem to think they are.

they went on a bombing run ,
they were not lined up on the target ,
they flew into and out of the flak ,
then turned around for another go at it .

they went to such absurd lengths to kill ACORN.  It was everything they feared, a community-based, multi-racial/multi-ethnic coalition of class conscious working people.  Of course they had to kill that.  It was a cynical travesty that the Dems were nowhere to be found in the public slaying of ACORN, after they had benefited so much from its existence.  That the abandonment by the Dems meant an overall "who cares?" attitude by what passes for Liberal America today was more than predictable.
